Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother, posted photos and videos from Tesla’s Roadster unveiling and wrote, “I’m the proudest mom in the world.” She also asked, “What did Elon do last night?” and added several heart-face emojis. The post followed the livestreamed show on Thursday, October 15, held at a SpaceX test site near Waco, Texas.
What she was reacting to
At the event, a Roadster drove up a curved ramp, launched off the end, flipped in the air and landed. Elon Musk said afterward, “Well, it worked.” Tesla claims 0 to 60 mph times from under 1.6 seconds to under 0.59 seconds, depending on the version, and those are Tesla’s own figures. We covered the show in Tesla Roadster Flips Off a Ramp and Lands in Its Unveil Demo.
What we could not confirm
We could not open Maye’s post ourselves, and the account we read does not say whether Elon replied. The quotes above come from one report of the post.
Her recent posts about Elon
On Monday, October 12, she wrote that Elon’s focus on safety is why a Tesla owner and his son were alive after a freeway crash, which we covered in Maye Musk Credits Elon’s Safety First Focus After Tesla Crash. She also has a new memoir, “Timeless: The Art of Reinvention and Resilience at Any Age,” and we covered what she says in it about her Sports Illustrated cover in Maye Musk Nearly Said No to Her Sports Illustrated Cover.
Our take: a proud mother’s post is not news about the car. It does show a pattern: two posts in four days, both about Elon’s work. The open questions about the Roadster are unchanged: a final price and a delivery date customers can count on.
