Justine Musk Says Mothers of Musk’s Kids Are Called ‘Breeders’

Justine Musk says in Alex Gibney’s documentary “Musk” that she and other partners of Elon Musk are referred to as “breeders.” AFP calls her Musk’s first wife and refers to 14 known children fathered by Musk. The film premiered at Venice on September 8 and opened in U.S. theaters on October 9.

Who said the word

Futurism attributes the word only to Justine and says Musk is not quoted using it himself. Variety quotes her describing the mothers as interchangeable. So the claim is her description of how she says Musk and the people around him treat the mothers of his children. The reports we read show no on-record comment from Musk about it.

The “legion” claim

Variety also reports that Ashley St. Clair claims Musk once messaged her to say they should have a “legion of children before the civil war.” That is her account of a message, and we found no outlet showing the message itself.

What is not known

The figure of 14 children is described as known or publicly known, not as a confirmed total. Musk did not take part in the film. The reports we read do not say what, if anything, he has said about these specific claims.

Our take: a headline saying Musk calls the mothers of his children “breeders” would go further than the reports do. What is on the record is Justine’s description and Ashley’s account of a message, both in a film its subject refused to join. Both women have also made other claims we covered: Ashley St. Clair Says She Turned Down a $40 Million Offer and Justine Musk Claims Elon Cut Daughter’s Health Insurance.
