Grimes has released “Accelerando,” the first single from her upcoming album “Psy Opera,” and Primetimer reports that Elon Musk congratulated her. Rolling Stone reported the reveal on October 9 and calls the album AI-inspired. We could not open Musk’s post, so we are relying on Primetimer for the congratulations.
The single and the album
Rolling Stone says Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, revealed the single and the album, and that no release date has been announced for the album. Consequence says it is her first album on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC, and adds that she did not use generative software for the new songs. The Fader reported on October 7 that she had shared a trailer video called “Eve Is Online.”
The Musk connection
Rolling Stone notes that Grimes met Musk in 2018, that they have three children together, and that they split in 2022. Primetimer’s headline calls her his ex. The reports we read do not describe any other contact between them.
What is not known
No outlet we read gives an explicit release date for the single, and the album date is still unannounced. We could not confirm the exact wording of Musk’s post.
Our take: a short public congratulation is a small gesture, and it should not be read as more than that. The bigger story for fans is the music: a first single, a new label and an album with no date yet. If Musk’s post turns out to say more than Primetimer describes, we will update this page.
