Musk Says Digital Optimus Plays Halfway Through Diablo

Elon Musk says Tesla’s Digital Optimus software can play about halfway through the Diablo campaign by looking at the screen like a human. The claim comes from a post on X on October 10, as reported by Tesla North and HuggingNews. We could not open the post itself.

What Musk claimed

Per Tesla North, Musk also said the software is good at Counter-Strike and other fast games, and that the game League is in training. He called the progress interesting. Tesla North quotes his stated aim: “Goal is to generalize across all games.” Musk’s words “about halfway” and “so far” are his own measure, and the posts did not show a demo.

What Digital Optimus is

Digital Optimus is a joint Tesla and xAI project, and it is separate from the Optimus humanoid robot. Electrek’s podcast listing in March carried the headline “Musk confirms xAI-Tesla joint ‘Digital Optimus’ project.” Newsquawk, in March, said Business Insider reported that Tesla was working on a Digital Optimus AI agent.

What is not known

We found no coverage from Electrek, TechCrunch or Business Insider on this specific post. No outside tester has confirmed the result, and we have no details on how the software was tested.

Our take: this is a claim from Musk with no independent check. Playing half of a game from the screen alone would be a real step for a general agent, but “about halfway” is a loose measure. We will wait for a demo or an outside test before reading much into it.
