Tesla Shows Its Cybercab in Europe for the First Time in Paris

Tesla is showing its Cybercab robotaxi at the Paris Motor Show, which opens Monday, October 12. It is the first time the car has been shown in Europe. The Cybercab has no steering wheel and no pedals, so it is built for a world where the car does all the driving. We had not seen any coverage from the show floor when we wrote this.

What visitors can do

Visitors cannot ride in the Cybercab. Show director Serge Gachot said in an October 6 interview that people can test drive six other Teslas that have Full Self-Driving, Tesla’s driver-assist software. So the Cybercab is something to look at, and the only driving experience on offer is in Tesla’s other cars.

Not a launch

Showing a car is not the same as announcing a robotaxi service. Nothing we have seen says Tesla plans to run robotaxis in Europe. Musk has called the Cybercab the future backbone of a large U.S. robotaxi business and has promised to deploy thousands. You may also see claims that a European rollout could come as early as 2027. We have not found that from Tesla, so we are not treating it as a plan.

Who else is there

Stellantis plans to show more than 60 vehicles from eight brands, and Renault about 50 vehicles and concepts. BYD, Xpeng and Volkswagen are also taking part. BMW said earlier this year that it would pull out of the 2026 show. Tesla’s presence looks small next to those numbers: the Cybercab to look at and six other cars to test drive.

Our take: showing a car is not the same as selling rides. In Europe, Tesla’s driver-assist software is still working through approval, and Tesla has already changed what it calls that software on its European websites. Tesla’s dealings with the Dutch regulator over that approval have been a story of their own. A parked Cybercab in Paris says little about when one could carry passengers there.
